What is augmented reality (AR)?

AR Technology became mainstream a few years ago tanks to Pokémon Go. The AR app game allowed utilised users campers on their smart phones and tablets to ‘interact’ with Pokémon characters depending on their geographic location.

Ikea have also utilised the technology by creating an app that allows potential customers to virtually place Ikea furniture in their homes, meaning they can ‘try before they buy’.

AR technology for business

Some business’ have gone a step further, using AR technology to activate apps and assist with advert placements on social media/ webpages you visit. For example if you walk past a bicycle rental kiosk, the app will pop up and ask you or adverts may pop on sites thereafter asking if you want to rent a bicycle.

We are starting to see a new wave of innovative solutions being developed as a result of AR technology becoming more mainstream. This will give businesses a new way to interact with customers and could help you to create new delivery models for your products and services.
